Corey Leatherman, 12, was crushed when a big striper he hooked
at Clarks Hill Lake spit the hook after a 10-minute battle. His
father, Jay Leatherman, urged him to keep trying. Moments later,
after baiting back up and circling over the same spot, this
52-pound monster grabbed a live herring. The trophy fish measured
49 inches long and 31 inches in girth. The Leathermans, who live
in Belmont, N.C., plan to submit Corey's fish as a candidate for
the Junior World Record.
